Nibbles & News #3
Welcome to Nibbles & News #3. I can’t believe we are two thirds through January already. Time is flying but with more snow forecast over the weekend, I’m looking forward to enjoying it with very little planned. I do have one thing that I will be working on though and that is an article about baking for charity which is going to be in an upcoming popular magazine. Very exciting and more on that soon.
This afternoon we are going out to use the wooden sledge I brought before Christmas with the hope that we might get snow at some point. All three of my little ones fit on it so I foresee hours of fun. Snow makes me think of hot chocolate, rosy cheeks and wonky snowmen. There is also the not so glamorous side of snow which includes hours to get ready, frozen fingers and toes and a kitchen floor that is covered in slush from wellington boots, but I ignore that bit. Whatever you have planned I hope you enjoy and stay warm. xoxo
Great British Bake off returns for Comic Relief
I’ve set the recorder already because a new celebrity Bake Off in aid of Comic Relief is starting on Monday 21st Jan at 8.30pm on BBC 2 . 16 celebrity contestants fight it out in the GBBO marquee all wanting to be crowned baking king/queen. Support the cause by holding a bake sale, your own pay to enter bake off or purchasing any of the Bake Off accessories on sale at Sainsburys, TK Maxx or HomeSence. For more information see the Comic Relief website
“Tea for Two” Valentine’s Virtual Bake off
Talking of bake off’s, I’m currently running a virtual Valentine’s Bake Off on my blog. All you have to do is blog about any Valentine’s bake/cake that you have made or if you don’t have a blog, email me a picture of your cake/bake to firstname.lastname@example.org and you will not only feature on a round up of my blog, but you will also be in with the chance of winning a fantastic Cornishware set of mugs and matching teapot. Holly Bell from The Great British Bake Off season 2 will be picking the winner for me. Deadline is 8th Feb. For more information see my blog post .
Mini Book Review: Pure Vanilla by Shauna Sever
This book is as the title claims, pure vanilla, and given that I love vanilla, this is a very good start! Inside you’ll find a really lovely collection of cakes and pastries, desserts and drinks. Yes drinks, including the scrummy looking malted white hot chocolate and a vanilla mojito. These and some of the other recipes were completely new to me which certainly kept me interested and flicking right to the back for more.
Page Turn on - beautiful photos, original recipes and the smaller handy size of the cook
Page Turn off – American measurements. There is a conversion chart in the back but it’s a lot of extra effort to work it out. There is also no mention of the option to buy fairtrade vanilla and why that would be an important consideration to the consumer which I felt would have given the book a more balanced view.
Best quote: “vanilla: anything but ordinary”
Worst quote: “ Who says vanilla isn’t sexy?”

My Hot Valentine’s Wish List
1. Heart shaped bundt tin from Nordicware. I could think of soooo many occasions to use this and not just on Valentines Day. Might have to give a nudge to my Hubby for this one.
2. Emma Bridgewaer Sampler Cake Stand
I have a confession. I actually have this. Brought this for myself with Hubby’s permission last Valentine’s day and now I use it as often as I can. I LOVE it.
These are not new, in fact I had my eye on them last year as well but I adore them. Not bad around £25 either.
Not cheap, but if you like baking a good mixer is worth it’s weight in gold. I’ve had my cream one (wish it was baby pink but I’m not complaining) for 5 years and I must have used it almost every day during that time. The colour of this one is sooo cute and perfect for a very special V day present.
OK, it’s not bakeware but given that I am now a Stylist for Stella and Dot I could not miss the opportunity to tell you about this necklace which I think is the perfect gift for Valentine’s day. After all, a girl can never have enough jewellery! Intertwined 14kt gold vermeil and sterling silver circles on a sterling silver chain make for a stunning keepsake. Follow the link to order and name me as your stylist at the checkout.
