A Right Royal Round Up
Well, when I came up with the idea of running a bloggers Jubilee baking competition I hoped that I might get enough entries to make double figures, but I would never have predicted such an incredible response. I had no less than 44 entries all of which are suitably regal and examples of amazing creativity. I LOVED receiving all of the entries. They put a smile on my face pretty much every day that this competition has been running. Thank you so much to everyone for taking part.
The lovely Vanessa Kimbell who is judging this competition will be taking a look at this round up and letting me know in the next couple of days who she picks as winner. I will then announce who has won in a special blog post next weekend, so watch this space…
Before we start, I might suggest that you grab a cup of tea or coffee and maybe a slice of cake (it’s got to be done) before you settle down and enjoy the wonderful selection below. You could be here for some time.
First up is Olivia from Liv a Little Bakery who entered the cutest little toy solider biscuits I have ever seen. My girls would snap those up in an instant. Having made a few iced biscuits myself I know how much work is involved in making something like this.
Next was Chintal from Sweetcreationz cakes and bakes who made some gorgeous
chocolate Jubilee cupcakes with the added surprise of a strawberry baked inside each one. Chocolate and strawberry are a great combination so I’m sure these did not last long in Chintal’s house.
Helen from Fuss Free Flavours submitted two fantastic entries. The first was
red, white, and blue madeleines. I loved the look of these dinky little treats. Although I think they are probably far too easy to keep popping ‘just one more’ in. They also appealed to the mother in me as there was not a E number in site.
Helen’s second entry was the rather incredible
Union Jack Jelly Belly cake. I found it hard not to lick my computer when I saw this. I LOVE Jelly Bellies. Helen tells me that it took her 15 mins to work out what to put where and 30 mins to create the pattern. It looks near to perfect to me. She must have a very steady hand.
Adia from Sniff and Snort blog sent over with gorgeous vintage style
Jubilee cake. I love how the cake is different from the red, white and blue theme, but still in my opinion looks fit for a queen.
Ros who writes More than the Occasional Baker blog has astounded me in the level of her Jubilee baking by sending me 4 fantastic entries. All I can say is that she must have been dreaming Jubilee bakes to come up with that many original ideas. I’m sure all her friends and family have been very grateful for all the Jubilee cakes that have been coming their way recently. And here they are:
Another keen Jubilee baker Elaine who writes Fun as a Gran blog. Elaine introduced me to her blog by entering this competition and have to say I have really enjoyed reading her posts. She makes me smile.
Her first entry was some
Jubilee bread! This looks great fun to make and would certainly be a talking point at any Jubilee party.
Elaine’s second entry was a fab blog post describing her adventures when making
Jubilee biscuits. The first attempt did not go to plan, but Elaine gave them a second go and this fab London bus was the result.
The final entry was entitled ‘
Crowning Glory‘ which was this amazing multi-coloured meringue.
Next up was Gem from Cupcake Crazy Gem, who entered these fun
Pimm’s cupcakes with mint and cucumber frosting! Sounds interesting but after a few Pimm’s over the weekend I’m really keen to try these out. I bet they taste super.
This next entry was from the lovely Laura from Laura Loves Cakes. She had been promising me an entry for a few weeks before she sent me this one, and I’m sure you will agree, she certainly did not disappoint. This wonderful
crown cake is simply splendid.
Battenburgs were a popular choice of entry and this
Union Jack cake is the first one to showcase. Sent in from Cafe Retro’s blog, I was very impressed with how perfect the Union Jack looks inside the cake.
Angela from Garden Tea, Cakes and Me blog entered these gorgeous looking purple and gold
cupcakes. I adore the purple and gold colours together.
Another blog that I had not seen before this competition but love is Fold in the Flour written by Suzie. There are two entries from Suzie, the first is this amazing
Jubilee cake with a blue sugar crown.
Laura from How to Cook Good Food entered these cute
mini pavolvas. I love the fact that these are the perfect size for popping in your mouth all at once. No mess, job done!
I’m so pleased that Karen from Lavender and Loveage decided to enter her
Victoria scones because you just can’t beat a scone with jam and clotted cream if you are after a British treat. I shall be making these very soon indeed.
These adorable
lemon shortbreads with raspberry cream sent in by Laura from Aga Girls blog look amazing to me. I just love the way she has managed to replicate the official Jubilee logo on the top.
My blog pal Jacqueline at Cakeboule makes the most amazing cakes and has been blogging for a whole year now which is a fantastic achievement, (round of applause). If you follow her blog you will know that she has started a tradition of ‘payday’ cakes which are cakes to make for yourself (and to share if you want) each month to celebrate getting paid and all the work you have done. This month was
white chocolate mousse cake with a raspberry blast secret centre which looks and sounds pretty spectacular. Perfect for any Jubilee celebrations.
Next is an entry from Ren of Fabulicious Food. Ren has put together a fantastic selection of ideas for
Jubilee cupcake decoration. All of which look very professional.
Now a Jubilee cake with a difference. This
castle cake from Jude at A Trifle Rushed blog is so sweet. My favorite part is the two little guards standing either side of the entrance. I’m glad Jude got to use her castle cake tin again too.
Working London Mummy also submitted this yummy looking
Jubilee trifle which looks so pretty in the wine glass.
Dom from Belleau Kitchen entered with this lovely
blue and red checkerboard cake. Even more impressive given that he only had 24 hours to come up with the idea and bake it.
I was hoping to see some macarons and Rachael from Almost Always Hungry blog did the honors and created these suitable royal
brandy snap Jubilee macarons. How sweet would these look at afternoon tea with the queen?
Lottie, from Lottie’s World of Cakes and Bakes sent in an
iced cherry and almond Jubilee cake. I thought the gold stencil work on the top and the mulitcoloured buttercream roses around the edge looked very effective.
Caroline from Caroline Makes blog sent in two entries. The first was these adorable
corgi cake balls.
And the second was this
Jubilee crown cake which Caroline made for her mum’s birthday. All I can say is that if I get a cake like this from my girls when they are older I would be thrilled to bits. Loved that the corgis got to sit round the crown too.
Sadia from Baking Elements has also been very busy with her Jubilee baking and sent me in two entries. The first was this
Jubilee battenburg, with a fab Union Jack inside.
Secondly, was this
Jubilee crown cake with another super Union Jack inside too. I am so impressed with patterns made with sponge inside a cake. My brain is not great at working out what to do with each layer of sponge to get the desired effect, so it’s very nice to be shown how to do it. Check our Sadia’s blog to see pics of inside her cake.
This next entry of
finger sandwich bake from Credit Munched blog is such fun. I think the joke would be on me though as I’m sure I would totally think these were sandwiches. They look so realistic!
Another fab new blog that I have been introduced to via this competition is Lil Ms Squirrel’s 366 Recipe Challenge. There is a new recipe on there every day! Very impressive. For my competition Lil Miss Squirrel entered a fabulous looking
Jubilee Lemon, Blueberry and Raspberry Bundt cake. A bundt cake tin is on my list of things to buy.
So much thought has gone into this next entry. Kathy from For Cakes Sake blog explains that each of these
Jubilee cupcakes depicts a decade of the Queen’s reign so far. Sounds like they were really fun to make and with a toddler and a 9 week old baby to deal with by day, I’m very impressed that these even got baked let alone decorated with such thought. Check out Kathy’s blog for a description of what each cake represents.
This next entry made me smile a lot!
Edible spoons, with a Union Jack on! How fantastic. Hannah from Corner Cottage Bakery blog certainly knows how to get the wow factor! I just love the Jubilee cup and saucer too.
Janine from Cake of the Week blog created this colourful
strawberry and clotted cream Jubilee cake which I must say looks totally delicious. Love that she has included strawberries in the sponge as it is such a nice surprise when you cut a slice to see them inside.
I loved the bunting on this next
iced Jubilee cake from Lucy at Vanilla Frost blog. The crown on top is quite something too. It was created by being shaped around a baked bean tin! Excellent use of random kitchen objects.
These
Jubilee Mr Whippy cupcakes are something else I really must try. My girls would LOVE them. Becky from Mint Custard blog added some blue and red colouring to make them suitably patriotic. I think they look fab.
Ruth from Mixing Bowl Magic blog entered these rather unusual
cucumber cupcakes with tea icing served in a cup and saucer. She describes on her blog how she arrived at such an unusual idea and I think they look great, especially with the chocolate crown and spoon on top.
This
Jubilee celebration cake is beautiful. The scattering of flowers with a polka dot ribbon around the bottom is so effective. Emine from M Bakes blog certainly know how to design a cake.
The classic Victoria sponge has been a popular entry, but it is rather perfect for a Jubilee treat. Jess from Creative Heights blog sent in her
strawberry and blueberry Victoria sponge with a crown on top made out of the fruit and cream to give it a regal finish.
Last, but by no means least, Janice from Farmers Girl blog sent over her
Elizabeth sandwich cake which looks so scrummy with the curd, cream and fresh fruit. Bet that did not last long!
So there we have it! A brilliant selection of Jubilee cake and bakes. I hope you have had fun browsing through the round up as I have putting it together. Well done again to everyone who entered, and look out for my blog post next weekend announcing the winner.
With thanks again to
Appliances Online for sponsoring this competition and providing the prize.
